Where to put DataBlox
Unlike brick and mortar Data Centres or tenanted building with allocated server room, DataBlox can be placed where you need it. Careful placement of DataBlox will benefit in several key areas, operational performance, installation costs, staff access and future moves or expansions. As a component of the MeshBlox needs analysis we will assist your delivery teams with determining the best location. See how we can help place DataBlox for you.
Operational considerations
Placement of the DataBlox can enhance operational performance on two levels. Bringing high availability equipment closer to your IT & T staff allows for faster changes, problem diagnosis and fault rectification. Recent IDC findings were that 25% of IT staff want the data centre within a day's drive and 59% wanted it within easy driving or walking distance for IT staff. Close location is clearly a strong criteria for IT staff. With many organisations requiring high availability a facility only solution will not deliver, operational process and staff access for fault diagnosis and rectification are equally important.
Offering a high physical security level on it's own is a great start, but appropriate security involves careful placement within secure monitored and manged areas. In it's simplest form the DataBlox as a open air deployment, yet within sight of security personnel, within the envelope of existing building security

Suggested deployment areas
Areas to consider for your deployment of DataBlox. Depending on the type of equipment housed and the frequency required to gain access.
With a space only slightly bigger than you average SUV DataBlox20 is compact and able to be located in areas that normally would not be considered large enough. DataBlox10 is even more compact, at only 3m (under 10ft) long it is sufficiently small enough to fit easily into an average car space. With only power, data and air space for the cooling system to consider planning placement of DataBlox has never been easier. Importantly with a IP65 enclosure rating and IP55 cooling system rating the DataBlox is able to take the extremes of open air deployment. The specialised access plinth gives the additional ability to quickly move racks in and out of the DataBlox.
Able to be powered independent of grid power, and with the ability to data link via microwave, WiFi, GSM and satellite - DataBlox can be deployed anywhere.
Metropolitan/Regional locations:
Adjacent to buildings
Placing your DataBlox adjacent to the building saves on cabling costs for data, and provides a easier connection for power. Abundant ventilation allows the cooling system and economisers t work at maximum efficiency. Sheltered in the shadow of a main building some additional weather protection is provided, lowering demands on the cooling systems and minimising any weather protection required for staff access. Ready access by lifting equipment allows rapid re-deployment of DataBlox, minimising downtime.
Loading dock space
Many larger buildings have one or more loading dock areas. Often these areas have adjacent storage or utility areas which would provide sufficient space Placing your DataBlox adjacent to the building saves on cabling costs for data, and provides a easier connection for power.
Let MeshBlox with Site Survey service help you determine if loading dock space is appropriate for placement of the DataBlox. Our expert thermal and electrical engineers will determine if the environment is compatible and if any site preparation will be required to ensure optimum performance. We will even help you negotiate with you building landlord for any building ventilation, power and structural impacts, to ensure that deployment is smooth and trouble free
Open air carparks
Placing your DataBlox in an open air area such as a building car park saves on cabling costs for data, and provides a easy connection for power. Abundant ventilation allows the cooling system and economisers t work at maximum efficiency. Additional shelter can easily be erected, such as an awning or carport style covering to provide some additional weather protection , lowering demands on the cooling systems and minimising any weather protection required for staff access. Ready access by lifting equipment allows rapid re-deployment of DataBlox, minimising downtime.
This configuration also provides for additional DataBlox units (10 or 20) to be added in the same area utilising the same power and data sources. Units can be set next to each other or stacked to save space. Ask us on our stacked unit access ramps and walkways.
Under building carparks
An often neglected asset in many buildings the underground carpark offers another area to place your DataBlox. Remaining within the building footprint saves on cabling costs for data, and provides a easier connection for power. Challenges that will need to be considered are appropriate ventilation to allow the cooling system and economisers to work at maximum efficiency. Locating units on the upper flor of an underground carpark will take advantage of any natural ventilation and put minimal additional strain on building fume and heat ventilation systems. Weather protection is assured provided, lowering demands on the cooling systems and often eliminating any weather protection required for staff access. At 2.6m high the DataBlox is able to fit under many hieght requirement of upper floor carparks. Ready access by lifting equipment and container roller skates allows rapid re-deployment and positioning of DataBlox, minimising downtime.
Let MeshBlox with Site Survey service help you determine if this often overlooked space is appropriate for placement of your DataBlox. Our expert thermal and electrical engineers will determine if the environment is compatible and if any site preparation will be required to ensure optimum performance. We will even help you negotiate with you building landlord for any building ventilation, power and structural impacts, to ensure that deployment is smooth and trouble free
Warehouse
Many organisation have warehouse sites either adjacent to their main building or within the corporate network. Warehouses provide ideal locations for DataBlox placement ready access to data and power saves on cabling costs , and provides a easier connection. Abundant ventilation allows the cooling system and economisers to work at maximum efficiency. Sheltered within the warehouse footprint no weather protection is required, for staff and equipment access. If dusty or humid environments are a concern the optional temporary clean room can be used. Warehouses provide ready access by lifting equipment allows rapid re-deployment of DataBlox, minimising downtime.
